A couple of masterpieces

Coin 16 of Series X
In the last series, I mentioned a couple of masterpieces by Coriosolite die engravers. In Coin 16 of Series X, the novelties are restricted to the front of the face, while in Coin 67 of Series Y, the novelties are throughout the composition. Although both coins date to the middle of the first century BC, the decoration to the two heads would not be out of place in the early Celtic art of Waldalgesheim (with a Belgic contribution).

A number of tribes migrated to Armorica from near the Rhine, bringing their artistic styles with them. Because of little subsequent artistic borrowing in the area, these designs persisted there much longer than in their homeland.
