A Celtic later Hallstatt period tomb of the 5th century BC (don't forget to view the album) is being excavated at Lavau (Aube). It looks like this one might give the previously discovered tomb at Vix (photo on the right) a run for its money. Rich in imported Etruscan and Attic artifacts, such princely tombs are a feature of Celtic sites in France and Germany but none have yet to be found in Britain. As Britain was very much on the periphery at that time, such a discovery is not expected. Mind you, no one ever expected that an example of the rare Celtic Plastic Style would be found in Britain, let alone one that was actually made there.
